D3 Publisher no longer plans to release God Eater in North America or Europe. But it’s all right, because we’re going to get the updated version of the action RPG, God Eater Burst, instead.

Now scheduled for a first-quarter release in North America next year and for an unspecified date in 2011 in Europe (published by Namco Bandai), God Eater Burst includes “more than twice the number of missions in the original God Eater,” along with a new “Burst Mode” that can be used to temporarily power up characters’ “Devouring Attacks. ”

“If you’ve ever wondered what a god tastes like,” the press release teases, “you won’t have to wait long to find out. ” And we thought it was just a clever name!

An Apache, Spartan, Pirate, Ninja, Samurai, Viking, Knight and Roman Centurion walk into a bar — and then murder each other. That’s not a joke. It’s Deadliest Warrior: The Game on XBLA next Wednesday, July 14 for $10. (Head past the break for a complete XBLA release schedule. )

Ah, the July 4th weekend. The perfect time for grilling hot dogs, setting off fireworks, jumping in the pool, and … hockey? That’s what 2K Games wants you to think about — it’s sending an NHL 2K11 recreational vehicle on the road this summer, giving you a chance to play the new game in a town near you. The RV started at E3 a few weeks ago in LA, and after a quick stop in Santa Monica next week, it’s off to the wild roads of the United States and Canada (the full schedule is after the break).

Ryan Kesler has a tour of the vehicle over on 2K’s website, and it looks like a fine conveyance. For now, anyway. Sorry, Philly and New York — after a couple of months on the road, that shower might not be quite so pristine.

Though our brief time with inFamous 2 at E3 last month was both savory and delicious, we were perplexed by protagonist Cole McGrath’s apparent new super power: The ability to, well, shift his shape. The raven-haired, tattooed punk who we zapped around the city with didn’t resemble the balding bike messenger we came to know and love from the original inFamous. Now IGN reports that Cole’s style is changing yet again — this time, though, he’ll closer resemble his old, less hirsute self.

Developer Sucker Punch reportedly informed IGN of the changes with a pair of concept renders which the site wasn’t at liberty to describe. We’ve contacted the developer as well, and hope they’ll be able to confirm our suspicion that Cole has doffed his jacket because it’s so super hot in Fake New Orleans.

He’s kind of like Kevin Butler, but he’s a lot younger and he’s all about the PSP. His name is Marcus, Marcus ‘PSP’ Rivers (we’re not confident that’s his Christian name) and he’s the face of a new ad campaign that Sony’s running to promote the PSP and PSP Go: “Step Your Game Up. ” We saw a glimpse of the little scamp during Sony’s E3 presser, but apparently Marcus will be branching off on his own in the coming months.

A PlayStation blog post details the campaign and points out Marcus’ YouTube channel which is full of clips from pieces currently running “on over 19 networks. ” We’ve embedded a couple of our favorites after the break, so head on past to make with the yucks.

Dead Space Ignition

We know Dead Space-dev Visceral Games has had its eye on the downloadable space — along with the rest of EA — for some time now with the oft-rumored Jack the Ripper title and something else. Well, that something else is Dead Space Ignition, “the first of many exciting game extensions we have planned for the launch of Dead Space 2,” says Dead Space franchise exec producer Steve Papoutsis.

From what we can gather from the press release (embedded after the break), Ignition is a “Choose Your Own Adventure,” comic-style story with “three unique hacking mini games. ” Ignition will provide a “unique perspective leading up to Dead Space 2″ and fill in new players on all the backstory they need to shoot monsters’ limbs off. Depending on which adventure you choose, you’ll earn one of four endings (replayability! ) and those endings will reward you with in-game trinkets for Dead Space 2, “including an exclusive suit. “

Like 2008′s Dead Space comic series, Ignition is again tapping comics author Antony Johnson to weave a tale of suspense, horror, mystery and (oh, right) dismemberment! Dead Space Ignition is being co-developed by Visceral Games and Sumo Digital for a Fall 2010 release on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network. Considering the promotional nature of the title, we’re hoping the asking price is a reasonable one.

[Editor's note: The image above was posted yesterday on the Dead Space Facebook page teasing today's announcement. The alien jargon in the upper right spells out "Ignition."]

Wow! Are we halfway through 2010 already? Time flies when there’s lots to write about in PC gaming, apparently. This week we thought would be fairly slow, but instead it turned out to be overwhelmingly busy. Let’s take a look at the past seven days at Big Download, shall we? We shall!

Preview: Mafia 2 (and Mafia 2 3D)

Mafia 2 feels, from the demo we played, like it could just as easily be called Grand Theft Auto: Godfather. If that’s what you’re looking for from the mob-o-rama sequel, then celebrate by throwing someone off a pier with cement shoes.

It’s actually pretty hard to note anything unexpected or different in the Mafia 2 demo. Almost everything you’d expect from a game that borrows heavily from the GTA IV template is there, both the good and the bad.
